On the one hand, there is the recruitment, transfer and promotion trade, and on the other hand, there is the commission on tenders and development projects. Along with this, there are allegations of laundered thousands of crores of taka abroad and invested in villas and businesses. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation into such extensive allegations against former advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.

Adding up the figures for financial irregularities and transactions mentioned in the complaints received, the amount stands at around 13,000 crore taka.

ACC sources confirmed this information on Saturday (September 12).

Sources said that the biggest amount of money is alleged to have been laundered in Dubai, Singapore, Australia and Switzerland, amounting to Tk 11,000 crore. The remaining amount is alleged to have been involved in the appointment of administrators and various positions in the City Corporation, projects, tenders and bribery transactions.

Earlier, on September 2, the ACC began an investigation into corruption against four people, including Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan. The investigation has raised allegations of various irregularities and corruption, including recruitment and transfer of personnel at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and procurement through syndicates.

The ACC said that it has decided to investigate by linking the new complaint to the previous complaint. The veracity of the complaint will be verified through investigation.

Money is also a game in DC's post

ACC says that around 600 million taka was transacted in the appointment of administrators in Dhaka North City Corporation. Similarly, there have been allegations of transactions ranging from 20 million to 100 million taka in the appointment of 36 DCs across the country. In the case of the 36 people, the possible transaction amount, as the minimum and maximum figures mentioned in the complaint, stands at 720 million to 360 million taka. The ACC will investigate the matter and verify it.

There are also allegations of Asif Mahmud's involvement in the tender business of Dhaka South City Corporation, Narayanganj and Comilla City Corporations. There are also allegations of taking 10 to 30 percent commission from tenders for various development projects while serving in the Local Government Ministry.

Allegations of increasing the project by Tk 1200 crore

The petition alleges that thousands of crores of taka were embezzled by inflating the cost of rural infrastructure development and bridge construction projects under the Ministry of Local Government. There have also been allegations of an abnormal increase in costs in the third phase of Dhaka WASA's Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant project and inflating the cost of the Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium project by inflating the cost by 1,200 crore taka.

The complaint further states that Asif Mahmud had allocated Tk 453 crore for the rural infrastructure development project for his upazila Muradnagar. Questions have also been raised about the allocation and money collection process for that project.

Allegations of transactions worth billions of taka in appointments, transfers and promotions at the Ministry of Youth and Sports are also being investigated.
