Police have re-arrested Md. Renu Mia, a leader of the banned Awami League who had escaped while wearing handcuffs in Kuliarchar, Kishoreganj, within nine hours of his escape.

He was arrested during a drive conducted around 10:00 PM on Monday (14 September) in the Madhabdi area under Salua Union of the upazila.

The arrested Renu Mia is the son of Illat Mia of the Madhabdi area. He is reported to be the president of Ward No. 9 Awami League of Salua Union.

According to police and local sources, a case was filed against Renu Mia at Kuliarchar Police Station over charges of attacking students during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. He had been absconding since the case was filed.

However, police stated that no commotion took place. Taking advantage of the crowd, Renu Mia managed to evade the police and fled while handcuffed. Police then launched a drive to capture him.
