Bangladesh has sought Bhutan's cooperation to reactivate the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Bangladesh has sought Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay's support in revitalizing SAARC for the collective welfare of the region and its people during his brief stopover at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today.

During his brief stopover, the Bhutanese Prime Minister was welcomed at the airport by Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Dr. Abdul Moin Khan and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir.

During this time, the two ministers highlighted the vision of late President Ziaur Rahman for a prosperous South Asia.

During the brief conversation, the two Bangladeshi ministers conveyed warm greetings from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the Prime Minister of Bhutan.

The two ministers expressed Bangladesh's interest in contributing to the development of Bhutan's 'Gelephu Mindfulness City' (GMC), especially by providing professionals and skilled and semi-skilled manpower.

They also discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest. They also highly appreciated the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, which have developed since Bhutan was the first country to recognize Bangladesh in 1971.

The Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the meeting.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay stayed in the VVIP lounge for about an hour before departing for Germany.
